Scott Oram: Lead Vocalist/Harmonica/Guitar - known as 'Scottie' to his friends. Joined the band Rosie Lee in 1969 as a Lead Vocalist, and continued to front the bands: Scar; The Outer Limits and Captain Midnight throughout the 1970s. In the early 1980s, I worked the Working-men's Club & Pub circuit as Scott Free a solo vocal/comedy act. In 1983 I left the North for London and embarked upon an acting career - appearing in 'Only Fools and Horses', 'Dr.Who', 'The Bill' and many more TV programmes - and in 1984 I was offered, and took up, the role of Simple Simon in the touring Pantomime 'Jack and the Bean-Stalk'. The 1990s saw a return to playing in bands and I was a founder member of The Alley Cats a 1950s style Rock 'n' Roll band. In 2002 I formed The Ratcatchers Skiffle Group especially for the first National Skiffle Conference and Concert and, in recent years, have been playing as part of Trilogy with Jimmy Rose and with The Lonesome Travellers SkiffleBilly Combo.

In September 2003, I organised the FIRST NATIONAL SKIFFLE CONFERENCE & CONCERT (entitled 'Here's The Way We Play It') which was presented by Liverpool School of Art & Design, Liverpool John Moores University and hosted by the Bluecoat Arts Centre

'Here's The Way We Play It', was a special music event focusing on the importance of Skiffle's contribution to British popular music. Academic & general papers on Lonnie Donegan; Coffee Bar Culture; Skiffle's Roots in 1920s/1930s American Folk, Blues and Novelty Music were among many, well received, presentations that contributed towards the days precedings.

The big question the Conference posed, however, was whether Skiffle still had a place in the 21st Century - and it was clear from the interpersion during the day and into the evening of live Skiffle music by:The Ratcatchers, Syd Little, The Ugly Dog Skiffle Combo, Vince Eager, The Doghouse Skiffle Group, The Liverpool AllStars Skiffle Combo and others, that it really did, and does.

As technology and the media now dominate the entertainment industry, and our pubs and clubs are increasingly falling victim to the backing-track determinism of Karaoke the Conference promoted the need for the spirit of Skiffle to rise again, for the sake of community, music and society.
